Chicken Run by Jorge Varguez

In this film I had the chance to see several types of leadership styles. Ginger’s role was to give hope to the group even when there wasn’t any at all. She had characteristics of a charismatic leader because she had confidence in herself, she had a vision that all the chickens could live in a better place where none of them can be harmed or feel isolated from the world, she also had a strong convictions of her vision because in the beginning of the film she can be seen trying to escape but unfortunately see always go caught by the mean man I can’t recall his name I think is Mr. Tweedy, she always put herself at risk for the safety of others. Ginger was a realistic chicken making her become a leader do to the situation of things so you can say she had the contingency characteristics of a leader because she knew sooner or later all the chickens were going to be sacrifice and if she didn´t try to do anything to change it no other chicken would because they were too scared of the bosses Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy. When the rooster that goes by the name of Rocky arrived at the barn everybody was excited because they all thought he could fly and once he recovers from his broken wing he would teach the chickens how to fly (it was obvious that chickens and roosters can´t fly), so rocky with his charismatic leadership (he was always talkative and polite to all) won their trust specially ginger´s trust because she was the one who found rocky and helped him hide so his owners won´t take him away. So they started planning their escape and rocky was the one who was going to lead them. Rocky felt a little guilty because he knew he was lying about the flying escape plan, but he was to scared of telling everybody that he can´t actually fly so he kept shut and started to give instructions to the chickens on how to start exercising so they can be strong and learn how to fly, he was able to give the chickens perseverance and a hard work motivation, for a while everything was going according to plan but they didn´t expect that rocky would abandon them one night and that’s when ginger takes control of the leadership role again but this time with more determination and will. She had a vision and then she put it into plan, first she called out a meeting so she could explain everybody what was the plan, afterwards she gave instructions to each chicken (leader member relationship and also task structure) they all were coordinated because they had to work fast and efficiently if someone was getting left behind they would help. Finally they put their plan to work and they finish (they made a big chicken aircraft and the idea was that they would fly this huge aircraft so they can escape). When they were escaping they had to face the bosses and that’s when rocky appears to help them escape but doesn´t take the role as leader again.
Ginger finally see’s her vision become a reality and she truly finds a place where chickens can roam free and live their feathery lives happy and with no worries, she also becomes rocky’s chick.
So basically this film showed me that once you have a vision, goal, point set in mind, dream, etc. you should never give up even if things aren´t going as planned you should keep to your plan and work hard and have a lot of perseverance in your mind so that you can have the strength to accomplish the goals you set in mind, many things aren´t easy in life, but they can be reachable in you have high hopes of yourself. We must trust ourselves that we can accomplish hard tasks because the true enemy is within us if I think like a negative person I will only get negative results, but if I think positive I have more possibilities of having success I may also get negative results too but at least I can see where were my mistakes and correct them to become a better leader.

  1. I agree with Jorge, what made Ginger so special and such a good leader is that she had a vision and she put her followers' needs ahead of hers.

Well, I think George pointed out a lot of important values that are necessary for leadership: take care of the ones that are considered your followers, charisma, confidence, vision... as well as what is important for being successful in life: being positive, keeping to your plans and perseverance. :) excellent
